Baked!

For the love of all things baked, here’s a peek into a very jovial and comforting hobby to keep the quarantine blues at bay…

Do you remember 31 Dec 2019, all those new year resolutions we made to ourselves like “this year is gonna be my year,” “I am gonna hit the gym and get in shape,” “how do I invest more time with my family and friends?” We all had big plans for this year. Yet, who would have predicted that it would be a year to stay indoors and maintain distance from one other to stay healthy? Well, here we are today.

In this lockdown, I’ve learned a lot about myself, public health, crisis management, and much more. But I have also turned to some very comforting activities that keep me happy and motivated, one of them is baking!

Baking comes up as one of those activities which my family enjoys doing. I have consistently been baking through this pandemic, making delicious dishes right in the comfort of my house. It’s been calming, entertaining, and productive in that way. We have yummy treats to carry us through another week of quarantine!

This week we decided to make some macarons. We started off with my mother combining the dry ingredients, my sister making the meringue, and mixing both of them together and pouring it into the piping bag. Now comes the fun part, pipping the mixture into cute little circles and waiting for them to dry out. As they were drying, we started making the ganache.

As we saw the skin was formed, we quickly popped them into the oven and watched the magic unfold. We were delighted looking at them. After 12 mins in the oven, we took the tray out and let it cool down. Later we cooked some delicious sandwiches. They were lip-smacking I must say.

Now it was the moment of truth. After waiting for a long time, here was the tasting part, guess what? These were the best macarons we had in a really long time. It turned out to be just a perfect Sunday dessert.

Although 2020 is not how we expected it to be. But I know for a fact, If I had a job out of my homeland. I would have missed on all these family times the dinners, lunches, and much more that I am enjoying today.
